Last year I attended DRAWN TOWARD TRUTH: Visual translation of the Reclaiming Power and Place (MMIWG) Workshop
https://ctli.jibc.ca/mmiwg/
hosted by Dr. Jessica Motherwell McFarlane.

We were guided to read several pages from “Reclaiming Power and Place: The Final Report of the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls”, and recreate these pages in comic form to share with the group. This was a powerful means to work through an emotional topic together.

Why stick figure translation? Stick figure visual narratives succeed as a learning tool because they can help us intentionally and conscientiously think — step-by-step — about complex, confusing, or painful issues. These simple comics can help us better SEE important issues and overcome our implicit biases.
